Living in Bliss

Every so often, we like to feature a condo building (or townhouse development) in Liberty Village. We do this for a couple of reasons but mainly because most of the building profiles you see online are generic, cut and paste descriptions copied right out of the builder’s promotional material that often has little reflection of the actual building or it’s living “experience”. We want people to read our posts and get a sense of what it’s like to live in the building beyond the amenities or ceiling heights.

We have set out to do better and today’s building profile is Bliss Condo at 55 East Liberty St. I feel fairly qualified to write about Bliss seeing as I have now been living in it with my wife and 1-yr old for the past year. Being a successful downtown real estate agent for the past 10 years, I have spent a lot of time in condos. A lot. I have even lived in a few, namely 954 King, 75 Portland and now 55 East Liberty. I really enjoy Bliss. Much more so than I enjoyed living in the expensive 75 Portland. When we moved over to 55 East Liberty from 75 Portland we felt like we had room to breathe. Granted, there is a lot of construction and traffic in the area, but there is still some room.

I also love the floor plans. They are generous compared to what I see in the smaller, boutique-style buildings downtown. You get a good sized den here. Depending on which way you are facing you get a view too. We are fortunate to have a sweeping view of the core and the north part of the city (N/E views) with a high-floored corner unit. I recognize that the lower-floored courtyard-facing views are not quite as exciting.

Bliss is a friendly building. People say ‘hi” in the elevator and almost always tell you to “have a good day”. Bliss has good amenities. I’ve seen better but ours are still good. Perhaps when the City hurries it up a bit we’ll even get to use our pool?? There has been a tonne of red-tape preventing the pool from opening, even though it has been “ready” for almost a year. Beaurocratic nonesense.

The pricing at Bliss reflect the area and at the moment you will likely pay (or sell for) $525 – $575 per square foot, depending on your views, finishes and size. I see this as great value in a city where it isn’t unusual to find values quickly moving above $650 psqft and beyond.
